2. Literature Review

2.1 Review of the related literature

This chapter will discuss about the issue from different other researches that are very closely related to the focus of this study. Firstly, it gives a theoretical overview of improvising visual aids in vocabulary teaching and learning in the classroom. That means how different language teaching learning theories view the use of visual advertisement language teaching. Then there will be the discussion about different sorts of advertisement, can be used as the materials of teaching. Further it will talks about how vocabulary teaching is facilitated by using different advertisement. Finally this chapter explore some way of using the advertisement as teaching materials.

    2.1 Vocabulary

Language teaching refers to the teaching of all the skills and aspects of a language. Different approaches, methods and techniques can be used while teaching language. There are four language skills, (listening, speaking, reading and writing) and aspects (grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation) of language. Vocabulary is the most important aspect of language, which is worth investigating, Cmeron (2002, p.124). However, learner usually admit that they experience considerable difficulty with vocabulary and many of them identify the acquisition of vocabulary as their greatest source of problem. Allen (1983), if teachers use visual materials, students learning will be better than the time when they use other materials. As we see the use of visual materials like picture in teaching and learning is increasing. As a result, language teachers use different types of teaching materials to explain the meaning of the words. The use of commercial advertisement as the materials to teach the vocabulary can be the best tool to make the teaching vocabulary innovative and generative in the sense of decorative and updated vocabularies. Therefore using commercial advertisement in vocabulary in vocabulary teaching is worth investigating.

According to Sapkota (2017, p 42) the use of visual aid in teaching vocabulary leads to faster and intensive learning of vocabulary items in students. Wright (1996, p.108) argues, “Without visual materials it is very difficult for the teacher to create a situation in which the students want to say something”

From the above discussion it is clear that the role of commercial advertisement can play significant situation in language classes. There are several studies and researches have been conducted, so far my research is significance because the learner get chance to learn the vocabulary in use in different circumstances. Vocabularies can be learned via different methods, but the use of commercial advertisement gave the way of using the new, decorative and updated vocabularies.
