They attacked male-dominated codes, norms and themes. Their main characters are women and they write from a female point of view. They wrote about the lives, problems and special concerns of women in the modern world. Many writers wrote psychological novels examining the deep and hidden psyche of the characters. Writers wrote about taboo subjects like lesbianism, gay, sex openly. The works of modern writers had no fixed themes. They were too open to many interpretations. Since this century faced two World Wars, the writers wrote against war, violence and barbarism. Patriotism began to be thought of as absurd and meaningless.
